Road Trip
Current Affairs
Today, I finally visited one of my friends whom I talked about over a week ago in an earlier post. Bad winter weather had caused the visit to be delayed twice, but today the weather was absolutely gorgeous, a perfect day for a road trip. My brother and I left fairly early in the morning and about 20 minutes into it stopped and got coffee at Speedway where all sizes and flavors are just 89 cents. We were listening to Electric Light Orchestra (I know, I know) and just having fun. The total trip took us about 90 minutes each way, but we took our time enjoying the scenery. The roads were familiar from driving to university, but we hadn’t driven them in over 2 years.
We made it to Robbie’s house and got a chance to meet his beautiful new little girl. It was different to have to strap a child carseat into our car (never happened before!) for sure. It shows how we’ve all grown up (last time I visited Robbie’s house several years ago it was a bachelor pad). We went to a Chinese buffet (something I always loved) and caught up on what we’ve all been doing and of course talked about how it’s a shame we let such long periods elapse between visits. I hope this time we mean what we act on our regrets.
David and I left and on the way back stopped at another Speedway and ordered an even bigger coffee (hey, it’s still 89 cents) and enjoyed the trip home too. This was more than just a road trip for me, but a chance to re-connect with an old friend. It was even more than that too, but a chance to re-charge my batteries. I’ve been busy and getting deeper into a routine that I’m not terribly happy with. It was wonderful to break out of that. I feel recharged. Nothing like a road trip to do that.
The photo to the left was taken by me. It’s of "Oliver Township." We have a cat named Oliver and always laughed at that sign. Now, we finally have a photo of it!
